President of the United States Joe Biden has called on Republicans in Congress to support the bill on additional aid to Ukraine as soon as possible. He expressed hope that the Republicans would keep their promise and support Ukraine in a separate vote, despite the political disputes that could lead to a government shutdown.
According to Reuters, Biden emphasized that it is important that American support for Ukraine is not prohibited and called on the Speaker of the House to keep his promise to ensure that the necessary support for Ukraine defending itself from aggression is approved.
When asked about his confidence in House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, a Republican, to implement the deal, Biden said: "We just made one on Ukraine, so we'll find out."
Biden urged Republicans to act quickly to avoid a new crisis in November and emphasized the importance of quickly passing a budget agreement for the year and respecting the agreements that were made several months ago.
As a reminder, the US House of Representatives and Senate have approved a budget to fund the country's government agencies for 45 days to avoid a shutdown. However, the document does not include aid to Ukraine. Biden called on Republicans to jointly support Ukraine and resolve this issue in the near future.
