    Опубликовано: 2023-09-11 12:00:09

The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov has expressed his intention to conduct a full audit of all areas under his leadership and prioritize the digitalization of conscription processes. He announced this news during his speech at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada.

In his speech, Rustem Umerov emphasized that the Ministry of Defense plays a key role in shaping defense strategies and policies. At his first stage in his new position, the minister's team will audit all areas under the jurisdiction of the Defense Ministry.

According to Umerov, the Defense Ministry team will develop a concept for transforming Ukraine's national security and defense system in line with new challenges and NATO standards, taking into account the president's "victory doctrine."

One of the initiatives is the introduction of an electronic military ID card, a unified register of conscripts, and the digitalization of all military medical commissions. This decision should help avoid corruption risks and ensure the effectiveness of military conscription.

In his speech, the Minister of Defense also noted that Ukraine needs more than UAH 3 trillion annually for the needs of the military sector, of which more than UAH 1.6 trillion is for the security and defense sector.

He emphasized that defense spending in Ukraine is growing, and a strong strategy is needed to enable the country to sustainably defend its interests. The Defense Minister emphasized the importance of digital transformation and budget optimization.

Umerov emphasized that today the security and defense sector employs more than a million people, including more than 800,000 in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is an impressive figure, given that at the beginning of the full-scale war there were fewer of them.

The increase in defense spending in Ukraine compared to 2021 was more than six times higher, and the increase in spending on the Armed Forces of Ukraine was almost ten times higher. The head of the Ministry of Defense emphasized that the defense budget accounts for one third of GDP, which is a huge amount for any economy in the world. We remind you that by the end of this year, Ukraine will need an additional UAH 250 billion to provide cash support, and these costs are growing every day.
