Creation of 6 national rehabilitation medical institutions

Ukraine is planning to implement an ambitious project to build a rehabilitation system by creating 6 specialized rehabilitation medical facilities at the national level. This initiative is being implemented as part of the Ministry of Health's global project to improve rehabilitation infrastructure.

According to the data released by the government's press service on August 22, these rehabilitation facilities are aimed at providing medical care to seriously ill and injured citizens who need active recovery. In particular, these medical facilities will specialize in the rehabilitation of patients with spinal cord injuries, psychological recovery, neurotrauma, skeletal and amputation rehabilitation.

The project envisages the installation of about 7,800 beds for those in need of rehabilitation treatment. This rehabilitation development program is based on Israeli experience and takes into account the needs of both civilian and military patients.

With the financial support of the World Bank, it is planned to complete the implementation of a full-fledged rehabilitation network from 2023 to 2024.

At the moment, rehabilitation units are being actively built on the basis of existing medical facilities. Upon completion of the project, each cluster and supercluster hospital will have its own inpatient rehabilitation unit.

According to government officials, "non-specialized inpatient rehabilitation units will operate in 136 medical institutions that are part of the improved medical care system. Each of these institutions will have 30 to 60 rehabilitation beds. In total, this will make it possible to provide high-quality and free active and confirmed rehabilitation to at least 126,000 patients annually."
