Solving the Mysteries of Female Disease

The modern world poses many challenges to women, and one of the common diseases in the female genital sphere is cervical erosion. Statistics say that this condition is found in 60-70% of women. Emerging erosion can also be encountered during pregnancy. What symptoms indicate the presence of this disease? Does the diagnosis of erosion have an impact on the fetus? Let's look at the answers to these and other questions.

    Cervical Erosion: Definition and Causes

Erosion is a condition in which cells of the cervical epithelium are replaced by cells from the cervical canal. While most cases do not result in serious complications, there is a small chance of progressing to a cancerous condition. Women with this diagnosis are required to be under the care of a doctor, otherwise an under-treated condition can cause more serious conditions later on, including infertility.

    Causes of Erosion

Mostly, erosion is associated with hormonal changes. Hormonal shifts during pregnancy, adolescence can be the cause of its occurrence. Other factors such as early sexual experience, decreased immunity, abortions, inflammatory diseases, overweight, birth trauma and genital infections are also highlighted.

    Symptoms of Erosion

In most cases, erosion can be asymptomatic and is detected only when examined by a gynecologist. Rarely, it can manifest itself with bleeding from the vagina, including during pregnancy, and pain during sexual intercourse. In the case of malignancy, symptoms may include profuse vaginal discharge with an admixture of blood and pain.

    Impact on Fetal Development

A diagnosis of cervical erosion during pregnancy should not cause concern about fetal development. However, in the mother's body, erosion can affect the birthing process, especially if cauterization has been performed. The use of this procedure may entail the risk of cervical rupture, which requires special attention and monitoring.

    Treatment of Erosion

To determine the treatment regimen, the patient is referred for tests that detect infections. If inflammatory processes or infections are detected, appropriate medications are prescribed. The traditional method - cauterization of erosion - is effective, with a low probability of recurrence. In the case of pregnancy and further planning, patients may be prescribed medication.

It is important to emphasize that cervical erosion is a condition that requires attention and, if necessary, treatment. Timely referral to a gynecologist and compliance with the specialist's recommendations is a key factor in maintaining women's reproductive health.
