  • Whether caesarean section should be shamed: a view without prejudice

    Опубликовано: 2025-05-11 08:48:23

Discussions about caesarean sections often go beyond medicine and touch on psychological and even philosophical aspects. In today's society, there are still preconceived notions about what the “right” way to deliver a baby should be. Some women feel pressured by others if the birth is not natural, although in essence the main thing is the health of mom and baby, not the format of the child's birth.

There is a widespread but erroneous belief that women who give birth naturally are more “wealthy” from a biological point of view. This is rooted in ancient behavioral patterns: being strong, enduring, coping without help. But modern medicine is not an arena for a show of strength, but a tool for preserving life. Caesarean section surgery is not performed for comfort, but for strict medical reasons.

The decision to perform a C-section can be dictated for a multitude of reasons, from high blood pressure in the mother to malposition of the fetus or the threat of hypoxia. It saves lives and reduces the risk of complications. A woman who has undergone such an operation has shown courage and trust in doctors, not weakness. And certainly it is not a reason to condemn or try to contrast her with those who gave birth “on their own”.

It is important to realize that the mere fact of the method of birth does not affect the mental or physical abilities of the child. Scientists have found no significant differences in the development of babies born by cesarean section and those born naturally. What really matters is how the child is raised, cared for, and surrounded by care and love.

Unfortunately, judging and dividing women into “right” and “wrong” births is still a social problem. It creates unnecessary guilt and anxiety in mothers, and this is what needs to be combated. Instead of criticism - support, instead of competition - solidarity.

In the end, the choice of delivery method is a medical decision, not a subject for comparison or discussion. The main thing is that mom and baby are alive and healthy. The rest is secondary. Every birth path is unique and deserves respect.
