Ukraine and Sweden sign agreement on defense cooperation

Ukraine and Sweden have reached an important agreement on the development of a bilateral agreement that provides for the joint implementation of projects in the defense-industrial complex (DIC). This initiative is part of the strategy for developing Ukraine's defense potential and strengthening international cooperation in the field of security.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, noting that at a meeting between the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine for European Integration Serhiy Boev and the Director of the Department of Testing and Evaluation of Technical Systems of the Swedish government procurement agency FMV, Brigadier General Johan Axelsson, key areas of defense cooperation were discussed.

One of the main results of the meeting was the approval of a bilateral agreement that will allow Ukraine and Sweden to work on joint projects in the defense-industrial complex. Among the priorities for Ukraine are the strengthening of the air defense system (AAD) and the expansion of ammunition production. Special attention will be paid to the development of long-range capabilities, which is critically important for strengthening the country's defense capabilities.

Johan Axelsson also reported that the Swedish government is due to make a decision on a new military assistance package for Ukraine in the near future. This package will be the largest since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, and will include not only the supply of weapons, but also investments in Ukrainian defense production, in particular to strengthen long-range capabilities.

In addition, both sides discussed further cooperation in the production of armored vehicles, in particular, the Swedish CV-90 infantry fighting vehicles. It is planned to develop a partnership to organize the maintenance and repair of this armored vehicle on the territory of Ukraine, which will allow to increase the effectiveness of the use of these vehicles during combat operations.

Another important topic of the negotiations was the issue of ensuring stable communication on the battlefield. This is necessary for the successful conduct of planned operations by the Ukrainian Defense Forces, which will contribute to more effective implementation of tasks within the framework of the state's defense strategy.

In general, the creation of this agreement opens up new opportunities for cooperation between Ukraine and Sweden in the defense sector, which will be an important step in strengthening the country's defense capabilities and developing the national defense industry.
