DTEK will receive significant financial support of €106.6 million ($112 million) from the European Commission and the US government to restore Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. This assistance is a response to the serious damage suffered by the Ukrainian power system as a result of Russian attacks. The company’s press center reported this.
The European Commission has allocated €62.8 million, which will be used to purchase the necessary equipment and materials to restore 1.8 GW of capacity. The funds will also be used to protect the infrastructure from adverse weather conditions, such as snow, rain and frost. This will ensure a stable energy supply for over two million citizens, DTEK emphasizes.
For its part, the US government will provide $46.1 million for the purchase of modern control systems and new transformers, which are critical for uninterrupted energy supply. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has already provided the company with aerial platforms, pickup trucks, transformers, and cables needed to quickly restore damaged networks.
US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Jeffrey Pyatt emphasized that this financial support will help strengthen Ukraine’s energy system, allowing it to better withstand unprovoked attacks from Russia. Such investments are of strategic importance for ensuring the country’s energy security.
Before the war, DTEK produced about a quarter of all electricity in Ukraine. However, since March 2024, the company’s operations have been threatened by intensive attacks by the aggressor. By mid-summer of this year, about 90% of the company’s generating capacity had been damaged or destroyed, which has become a serious challenge for the Ukrainian energy system.
The funds raised from international partners will allow not only to restore damaged facilities, but also to modernize Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, making it more resilient to future challenges. This assistance underscores the importance of global support for Ukraine in its struggle for energy independence and stability.
