Beach season: dancing between confidence and shame

Will there ever be a time when we can enjoy summer beach days without any complexes? As the long-awaited vacation season approaches, we happily dress up in tunics, bright shirts, miniskirts and ethnic-style shoes, so that then, on the beach, Get rid of the overkill as quickly. Yet with every single thing that is shot, our self-esteem seems to melt. Why do some show themselves carelessly, ignoring model standards, while others are shy about choosing a more revealing swimsuit because of a sense of modesty? And are there people who can’t even love their own body?

The reasons for shame in our figure often go back to childhood, when we were children and didn’t feel any shame about ourselves, until adults start to compare us to the accepted standards of beauty and behavior.

The beach is not only a place of rest, but also an arena of competitions where everyone feels on the podium. Half a century ago, the body was covered with closed bathing suits with long sleeves and skirts. Today, many of us hide under towels, feeling ashamed for our figure that does not meet the fashion standards.

The media has a huge impact on how we perceive ourselves. The image of a slender model with gorgeous hair and perfect skin pokes itself into our subconscious mind, making us see only the flaws in our body, that make us unique and unrepeatable in the eyes of those we love.

To be naked in water or in bed is natural. But when we have to expose ourselves to the public, we feel uncomfortable, as if all eyes are on us, and they’re judging us. That’s why on the beach women try to show only what they like about themselves, resorting to tanning, complex hairstyles and fashionable swimsuits in a fight for recognition.
