Kharkiv is renaming metro stations and streets

In Kharkiv, there will be significant changes in the toponymy of the city, in particular, two metro stations and about 370 streets whose names are associated with the aggressor country will be renamed. This was reported by representatives of the Kharkiv City Council.

On April 26, a meeting of the city commission on toponymy and protection of the historical and cultural environment was held, at which these decisions were made.

According to the results of the discussion, the commission supported the idea of renaming a number of streets whose names have a direct association with the aggressor country. For example, they plan to rename Aeroflotska Street to Antonov Street, and Bakunin Street to Bagataya Street.

Also among the proposed changes is the renaming of metro stations. In particular, the Pushkinska station is planned to be renamed to Yaroslav the Wise, and the South Station to Vokzalna.

In addition, the commission decided to give new names to Krasnoyarskyi Lane - Yurii Voronyi Lane in honor of the outstanding Ukrainian surgeon who performed the world's first kidney transplant.

These changes are implemented as part of a large-scale toponymy reform and correspond to the city's desire to change its image and reflect its identity. It is planned that the changes will become active by the end of this year.

The Kharkiv City Council calls on the community to participate in the formation of new names and actively support the process of reformatting the toponymy of the city.
