Denmark and Ukraine jointly implement the humanitarian project Spaces for Children

Denmark and Ukraine are jointly implementing the humanitarian project "Spaces for Children's Lives" aimed at creating favorable conditions for the psychological rehabilitation of orphans. At the initiative of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, Ukrainian cities will receive eco-friendly family-type houses where children can find warmth and protection.

The towns with eco-houses are planned to be built in three pilot Ukrainian cities, but the specific locations remain unknown. They will be integrated into local communities to provide children with the most comfortable conditions for their upbringing and development. Negotiations between the Danish authorities and Ukrainian authorities are currently underway.

The "Spaces for Children's Life" project envisages the construction of eco-houses with a significant reduction in CO2 emissions and taking into account the principles of healthy, adaptive and modern housing. According to Yulia Svyrydenko, Minister of Economy of Ukraine, there are currently about 27,000 orphans in the country who need a new home.

This project is not only aimed at social assistance, but also has an important economic aspect. All houses will be built using Ukrainian construction materials, which will help develop the domestic construction market and attract local companies to the project.

SOS Children's Villages Denmark will implement the "Spaces for Children" project in Ukraine in cooperation with Danish foundations and SOS Children's Villages Ukraine.

Against the backdrop of this initiative, Ukraine has seen a positive trend in the number of adoptions. In the first eight months of 2023 alone, the number of children who found new families increased by 14% compared to the previous year. Zhytomyr region became the leader in the number of adopted children, ahead of other regions.
