Explanations from the authorities: Who can be buried at the National Military Memorial Cemetery

The Ministry of Veterans Affairs provides clarifications regarding the persons entitled to be buried at the National Military Memorial Cemetery (NMMC).

According to the Ministry, the list of persons who may be buried at the NMCC is set forth in part one of Article 15-1 of the Law of Ukraine "On Burial and Funeral Business".

Servicemen who defended the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as full holders of the Bohdan Khmelnytsky Order, the Order of Courage, the Order of Princess Olga, and those who participated in international peace and security operations will be eligible for burial at the cemetery. Heroes of Ukraine who have been awarded the Golden Star Order since 2014 are also eligible for burial at the NICC.

The list also includes war veterans who took part in hostilities: ATO, JFO, as well as persons with disabilities caused by war in the same territories.

In addition, the Heroes of Ukraine who are buried in the temporarily occupied territories may be reburied at the NECC.

The law also provides for the possibility of reburial of prominent fighters for Ukraine's independence in the XX century and persons entitled to be buried at the NIC, whose urns are located in the columbarium niche at other cemeteries.

The Ministry of Veterans Affairs emphasizes that reburial at the National Military Memorial Cemetery can be carried out in accordance with the procedure approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
