  • Ukraine expands the list of those eligible for mobilization

    Опубликовано: 2023-09-06 16:30:37

The command of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) has clarified the expanded list of those fit for military service under martial law following a corresponding order from the Ministry of Defense.

The military stated that, together with the Medical Forces and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, changes were made to the list of diseases that determine fitness for military service.

It is noted that the list of diseases has not changed significantly, and includes diseases that can be recognized as fit, partially fit or unfit.

"The amendments recommend that doctors interpret the provisions on military medical examination in the same way in order to minimize errors in determining fitness. Regarding persons with chronic diseases who are called up for service, such persons have previously served in the Armed Forces in various positions, including support units and training centers. There are examples when such servicemen served in other military units," the statement said.

The command emphasizes that an individual approach is determined depending on the type of troops, their tasks and the level of workload. Each serviceman with health problems will be assessed separately.

The medical forces note that the decision on fitness is made by military medical commissions, and if a person has a chronic illness that prevents them from serving for health reasons, they cannot be mobilized.

"If there are diseases that are in long-term remission (3-5 years) and this is confirmed by laboratory tests, an individual decision will be made - fit or unfit. In this case, the issue of suitability for a particular accounting and military specialty is decided," the statement emphasized.

The Armed Forces also indicated that restrictions based on health status for the assignment of servicemen to certain types of troops remain in force.

"Servicemen suffering from certain diseases cannot serve in special military units, such as special forces, airborne troops, marines, special services, but they can perform duties as part of support units," the command summarized.
