The EU is conducting a survey on the choice of theme for the first major redesign of the euro

The European Central Bank (ECB) has announced the launch of a survey among citizens of the European Union on the topic of the first major redesign of the euro since the launch of this currency more than 20 years ago. This is reported on the ECB's official website.

The survey started on July 10 and will last until August 31, 2023. It is planned that the ECB Governing Council will choose the future theme by 2024, and the final projects will be developed by 2026.

The list of seven topics proposed for discussion includes the following options: "birds: free, resilient, inspiring"; "European culture"; "European values reflected in nature"; "the future is yours"; "hands: together we build Europe"; "our Europe, ourselves"; "rivers: the waters of life in Europe".

ECB President Christine Lagarde said: "We want Europeans to identify with the design of the euro banknote, so their active participation in choosing the new theme is very important."

In addition to the euro redesign, the ECB is also working on the development of a digital euro, which will be a partial alternative to physical money. "We are working on a new series of high-tech banknotes to prevent counterfeiting and reduce the environmental impact. We are committed to using cash and ensuring that it will always be possible to pay with public money," said Fabio Panetta, a member of the ECB's Executive Board.

The participation of EU citizens in the survey will be an important step in shaping a new image of the euro that will reflect the common values and identity of the European people.
