The Government of Ukraine has approved an update to the procedure for conducting electronic auctions for the sale of electricity under bilateral agreements. The changes provide for expanded opportunities for producers, in particular those working at distributed generation facilities. This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
The updated rules concern the organization and conditions for participation in electronic auctions. In particular, the government clarified the circle of market participants and detailed the requirements for their participation in electricity sales auctions.
From now on, electricity producers working at distributed generation facilities have the opportunity to voluntarily sell their products through electronic auctions within the framework of bilateral agreements. This opens up additional tools for them to work on the market.
The Government explains that such changes are aimed at increasing transparency and strengthening competition in the field of electricity trading. It is separately emphasized that the new mechanism should contribute to the development of decentralized energy generation.
The Cabinet of Ministers also notes that the adopted decision is especially relevant in the context of constant attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Expanding opportunities for producers should strengthen the resilience of the energy system.
According to the government, the new rules will contribute to a more flexible functioning of the electricity market and ensure the stable operation of the country's critical infrastructure even in difficult conditions.
