  • Kyiv plans to significantly increase public transport fares

    Опубликовано: 2026-05-19 16:00:17

New fares for public transport in Kyiv may be introduced from July 15, 2026. According to the proposed changes, the cost of a single trip will be 30 hryvnias.

The press service of the Kyiv City State Administration reported on the plans to revise the fares. The department explained that the current prices have long since not corresponded to the real costs of transport enterprises.

According to the Kyiv City State Administration, the economically justified tariff for 2026 is 64.60 hryvnias for one trip in the metro and 44.14 hryvnias for ground public transport. The city administration recalled that the last time fares in the capital were revised was in 2018.

During this time, costs for electricity, fuel and wages for transport sector workers have increased significantly. At the same time, passenger traffic has decreased, which has also affected the financial condition of municipal carriers.

For passengers who regularly use public transport, they plan to introduce a system of discounts depending on the number of trips purchased on a transport card. Thus, when purchasing from 1 to 9 trips, the fare will be 30 hryvnias per trip. If you purchase 10–19 trips, the cost will decrease to 28.90 hryvnias. For packages of 20–29 trips, the price will be 27.80 hryvnias, and for 30–39 — 26.60 hryvnias.

In addition, when purchasing 40–49 trips, the cost of one will be 25.50 hryvnias, and a package of 50 trips will allow you to use transport for 25 hryvnias per trip.

The capital also plans to update the system of monthly travel tickets. Depending on the number of trips, their cost will be: 1,088 hryvnias for 46 trips, 1,463 hryvnias for 62 trips, 2,156 hryvnias for 92 trips and 2,888 hryvnias for 124 trips. At the same time, the cost of one trip within the monthly travel pass will be approximately 23.3–23.6 hryvnias.

An unlimited monthly travel pass for the metro, bus, tram, trolleybus and funicular will cost 4,875 hryvnias. For students and pupils, preferential conditions will be maintained: students will pay half the cost of the monthly travel pass, and schoolchildren during the summer holidays - 25% of its price. During the academic year, travel for students will remain free.

Separately, the Kyiv City State Administration plans to introduce a transfer ticket for 60 hryvnias. It will allow passengers to transfer between the metro and ground transport without limits for 90 minutes.

Special short-term unlimited travel cards are offered for tourists and guests of the city. A ticket for 24 hours will cost 375 hryvnias, for 48 hours - 563 hryvnias, and for 72 hours - 750 hryvnias.

The Kyiv City State Administration also clarified that trips purchased with transport cards before July 14, 2026 will remain valid until September 14, 2026. The final implementation of the new tariffs is planned after the completion of regulatory policy procedures and consultations with the public and trade unions.

Residents of the capital can submit their comments and suggestions on the draft decision until June 1, 2026 via the platform forum.kyivcity.gov.ua. Currently, the fare for public transport in Kyiv is 8 hryvnias.
