Orban's former government funds to be directed to Ukrainian orphanage

The new Prime Minister of Hungary, Peter Magyar, said that compensation payments to former members of Viktor Orban's government are planned to be transferred to support a Ukrainian orphanage. This is reported by tvpworld.

According to the head of the Hungarian government, this is a children's institution located in a village in Transcarpathia near the border with Hungary. It is inhabited mainly by a Hungarian-speaking minority, which, as noted, was also one of the factors in choosing the facility for support.

Magyar clarified that after the official transfer of powers, the former ministers agreed to refuse to receive severance payments in favor of this initiative. Thus, the funds are planned to be directed to a social project in Ukraine.

The total amount of compensation for the former ministers is estimated at 350 million forints (970,000 euros). If we take into account payments to deputies, the amount increases to almost 1 billion forints (2.77 million euros).

Separately, the new prime minister announced the launch of an investigation into the activities of the previous government. He accused Viktor Orbán's team and the Fidesz party of increasing public debt, corrupt practices and nepotism.

According to him, Hungary's public debt has grown to almost 75% of GDP, and the inflation rate in 2023 reached 26%. Magyar claims that the previous government simultaneously increased the debt burden and created favorable conditions for close business groups.

The new prime minister also criticized possible payments to Viktor Orbán himself. Under current rules, the former head of government can claim compensation of more than 107 thousand euros, as well as a number of privileges, including a company car with a driver and the maintenance of an office. Magyar stated that he would not support such payments and benefits.
