The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved allocating over UAH 960 million for the implementation of priority energy projects in the southern regions of the country within the framework of the Sustainability Plans, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reports. The largest share of funding – UAH 582.3 million – will go to the Odesa region, UAH 280.7 million to the Mykolaiv region, and UAH 97.5 million to the Kherson region.
The money will be used to complete the construction and connection of 75 gas-fired generation plants with a total capacity of 96.4 MW. In addition, the funds will be used to develop distributed generation, create additional power sources for heat and water supply systems, as well as decentralize heat supply in cities.
During the working trip, government officials met with local businesses and discussed the restoration of energy infrastructure. The issues of preferential lending for energy needs and ways to increase the energy independence of regions after the systemic attacks of the Russian Federation were also considered.
According to the head of the Odessa MVA Serhiy Lysak, the funds will be directed primarily to the protection of critical facilities and ensuring stable energy supply to cities and enterprises. This will minimize the risks of interruptions in the operation of key infrastructure facilities.
In Ukraine, the number of gas turbine and gas piston units to provide critical infrastructure with autonomous power is actively increasing. Such systems allow maintaining the operation of facilities even during temporary outages or crisis situations.
Currently, the leader in terms of installed capacity is the Kyiv region with an indicator of 145 MW. The development of a distributed generation network in the south of Ukraine will help increase the stability of energy supply, support the operation of industrial enterprises and ensure the needs of the population in autonomous power supply.
