Law on special parking spaces for drivers with young children comes into force in Ukraine

A new law officially came into force in Ukraine on March 5, which provides for the introduction of special parking spaces for cars used by drivers transporting young children. These are cars in which children under the age of three are present, provided that the vehicle has an appropriate identification mark.

Information on the entry into force of this regulatory act was published on the official website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The law aims to create more comfortable and safe conditions for parents with young children who use cars.

According to the new rules, owners of specially equipped or allocated parking lots must provide and equip separate spaces for such vehicles. This means that parking lots must have clearly defined areas intended specifically for cars transporting young children.

The document establishes the minimum number of such spaces. It should be at least 5% of the total number of parking spaces in the relevant area. At the same time, the law stipulates that even in small parking lots, at least one such space should be provided.

At the same time, new spaces for drivers with children do not replace or reduce parking spaces intended for people with disabilities. They are additional to the existing quota, which guarantees the preservation of the rights of other categories of citizens.

Currently, the legislation provides that at least 10% of the total number of spaces should be allocated for cars of people with disabilities in parking lots. After the introduction of the new norms, at least 5% of spaces should be additionally equipped for cars transporting children.

Thus, in total, at least 15% of special spaces for socially important categories of drivers should be provided in parking lots. In any case, their number cannot be less than two - at least one space for each category.
