During January and February 2026, the state budget of Ukraine received more than 4.2 billion hryvnias from the so-called “Google tax”. This figure exceeded the receipts for the same period last year by 0.7 billion hryvnias, which indicates a further increase in the role of the digital sector in the formation of budget revenues. This was reported by the State Tax Service.
According to the agency, in January-February 2025, the volume of receipts from this tax amounted to 3.5 billion hryvnias. Thus, in 2026, receipts increased by 0.7 billion hryvnias. This was reported by the Acting Head of the State Tax Service Lesya Karnaukh, emphasizing the positive dynamics of tax payment by non-residents.
The “Google tax” is paid by foreign companies that provide electronic services to individuals in the customs territory of Ukraine. To do this, such companies are registered as value-added tax payers. According to Karnauch, during the first two months of 2026, non-residents transferred 38.5 million euros and 52.1 million US dollars to the budget.
Among the largest payers of this tax are well-known international digital companies. The list of payment leaders includes Apple, Google, Valve, Meta, Sony, Etsy and Netflix, which provide Ukrainian users with various online services and digital content.
Currently, 151 foreign companies that supply electronic services to individuals in the country have already registered as VAT payers in Ukraine. This allows the state to systematically tax the activities of global digital platforms that receive profits from the Ukrainian market.
The State Tax Service emphasizes that the implementation and stable receipt of this tax is an important element of forming a fair taxation system in the digital economy. According to Lesya Karnaukh, such payments not only ensure equal conditions for Ukrainian and international companies, but also contribute to additional funding for the state budget of Ukraine.
