In February 2026, Ukraine recorded an unprecedented volume of electricity imports - 1.26 million MWh. This is the highest monthly figure in the entire history of observations, which indicates a significant increase in dependence on external supplies this year.

Compared to January 2026, electricity imports increased by 41%. Such dynamics demonstrate a rapid increase in purchases within one month and form a new maximum in the structure of the country's energy balance.

The relevant indicators are reported by the specialized analytical publication ExPro, which regularly monitors the situation on the market. According to its data, Hungary remains the leader among supplier countries.

Hungary's share in the total import structure in February was 49%. Moreover, it was from this direction that the most significant monthly growth was recorded: compared to January 2026, deliveries increased by almost 54%, which was the highest increase among all exporting countries.

Despite previously voiced political forecasts regarding possible changes in trade flows, the actual situation turned out to be the opposite: electricity imports from both Hungary and Slovakia only increased in February and reached record monthly figures. Slovakia's share in the supply structure was 18%.

In annual terms, the growth looks even more significant. If compared to February 2025, the volume of electricity imports increased fivefold. At the same time, there is currently no electricity export in 2026, which emphasizes the one-sided nature of Ukraine's external energy flows in the current period.
