Kyiv outdoor advertising operators have reduced electricity consumption by almost 80%

In Kyiv, outdoor advertising operators have significantly reduced electricity consumption — by 78%. To do this, about 3,800 billboards were turned off and the brightness of digital advertising media was limited. Such measures were part of joint actions to support the stability of the capital's energy system under martial law, the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration reports.

In addition to the partial shutdown of billboards, operators have introduced additional schedules for voluntary shutdown of advertising media, which has significantly reduced the load on the power grid.

"The outdoor advertising market has shown a concrete result - the load on the network has significantly decreased. In the context of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, such steps really matter. This is an example of a responsible business position and constructive cooperation between the city and the market," said Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration Valentyn Mondryivskyi.

To further support the stability of the power system, the capital's operators will continue the voluntary shutdown of digital media, media with internal backlighting and facade advertising according to the following schedule: until February 15 - from 19:00 to 7:00, from February 16 to 28 - from 20:00 to 7:00, and from March 1 to 14 - from 21:00 to 7:00.

Billboards with outdoor lighting remain completely turned off, consuming no electricity. Thanks to these measures, the load on the power system is reduced, while at the same time ensuring the financial stability of the city.

Another important aspect is the social component: up to 30% of the content on advertising media is messages on security, mobilization, service operations and government announcements. "For the city, this is an important balance between energy responsibility and financial stability," Mondryivskyi concluded.
