  • World Bank plans to provide Ukraine with $40 million to support NPC Ukrenergo

The World Bank plans to provide Ukraine with $40 million to support NPC Ukrenergo in purchasing critical equipment needed to quickly restore the power system after the attacks. This was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal.

The financial assistance was the result of negotiations with the World Bank’s Managing Director for Operations Anna Bjerde. During the meeting, the parties discussed further steps to stabilize the Ukrainian energy sector, which remains a priority for international partners.

The target recipient of the funds is the transmission system operator, NPC Ukrenergo. Grant or loan resources of up to $40 million will be directed to the purchase of equipment that will accelerate the restoration of infrastructure and ensure stable operation of the power system.

According to Shmyhal, this support is an important stage of international cooperation to ensure Ukraine's energy security, especially in the context of constant cyberattacks and shelling of critical energy facilities.

It is worth noting that the World Bank's assistance complements the previously provided support from the European Union. Earlier, the European Commission and the European Investment Bank allocated an additional 50 million euros for the purchase of gas for Ukraine through the Support Mechanism. The European Commission emphasized that this loan contributes to a prompt response to the country's urgent energy needs.

Thus, the combination of financial assistance from the World Bank and European institutions creates the prerequisites for the restoration and stabilization of the Ukrainian energy system in the context of war and external challenges. This once again confirms the strategic role of international partners in supporting the security and functioning of Ukraine's critical infrastructure.
