President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on the introduction of sanctions against companies that service the Russian tanker fleet and are involved in the transportation of sanctioned Russian oil. Thus, Ukraine continues to increase economic and political pressure on the aggressor state.
The head of state announced the decision on his Telegram channel. According to him, the new restrictions are part of the systematic work to synchronize Ukrainian sanctions policy with the decisions of the European Union.
Zelensky emphasized that the sanctions are aimed specifically at companies that ensure the functioning of the Russian tanker fleet and help circumvent international restrictions on oil exports. The transportation of sanctioned energy resources remains one of the Kremlin's key sources of income, so restrictions in this area are of strategic importance.
In addition, the President announced the introduction of new sanctions against Kremlin propagandists, as well as individuals and structures involved in cyberattacks against Ukraine and its international partners. This is a further expansion of the list of individuals responsible for information and digital attacks.
The Head of State recalled that last week the European Union had already synchronized Ukrainian sanctions against six Russian propagandists within its jurisdiction. This, according to Zelensky, indicates increased coordination between Ukraine and European institutions.
At the same time, the EU is preparing another, already 20th, package of sanctions against Russia. The President noted that its adoption is expected at the end of February, and Ukraine is counting on further tightening of restrictions.
Zelensky emphasized that it is already clear at this stage: a significant part of Ukrainian proposals has been taken into account by European partners. This confirms a common approach to sanction pressure as one of the key instruments for deterring Russian aggression.
