  • Norway strengthens Ukraine’s air defense: new batch of missiles for NASAMS

    Опубликовано: 2026-01-23 16:00:03

Norway has transferred a significant batch of missiles for the NASAMS air defense system to Ukraine to increase protection against missile and drone attacks from Russia. The Norwegian government reports this.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre stressed that air defense remains a priority area of military assistance to Ukraine. Within the framework of the Nansen program, 85 billion Norwegian kroner have been allocated for civilian and military support to Ukraine in 2026.

“We will continue to support Ukraine in the struggle it faces,” Støre emphasized, noting the strategic importance of the assistance for strengthening the country’s defense capabilities.

Defense Minister Tore Sandvik added that the delivery of missiles took place at a critical moment and will ensure the effective operation of the NASAMS system, which has already shown high results against Russian missiles. He also noted the importance of international coordination, including with the United States and other partners, in quickly delivering weapons.

Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide noted that Ukrainian cities are under almost daily fire, and large areas of Kyiv have been left without heating, water and electricity due to Russian strikes. “This is exactly the help that Ukraine needs to defend itself against attacks,” he stressed, recalling his recent trip to Kyiv and meeting with President Zelensky.

NASAMS systems have already been transferred to Ukraine by several countries, including the United States, Canada and Lithuania, and have proven their effectiveness in repelling missile strikes. The new Norwegian missiles will strengthen the country’s air defenses and increase the safety of citizens from air strikes and drones.
