  • Ukrainian ports demonstrate growth in vessel calls and cargo handling

    Опубликовано: 2026-01-22 15:00:10

As of January 20, 2026, the number of vessels nominated by maritime agents for entry into the ports of Greater Odessa increased by 9% compared to the same date last year. This was reported by the Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration (USPA).

The agency denied information about the alleged suspension of vessel calls to Ukrainian ports due to increased Russian shelling. “These data are not true,” the USPA emphasized.

Over the 19 days of January 2026, the ports handled approximately 2% more vessels than during the same period in December 2025, as well as over 3% more than on the same date last year. These indicators indicate the stable operation of Ukrainian deep-sea ports even in difficult security conditions.

For security reasons, the administration refused to disclose the exact figures of vessel calls. Forbes Ukraine received confirmation from the USPA that fleet handling rates remain high and are constantly monitored.

Since the beginning of 2026, Ukrainian seaports have handled 4.16 million tons of cargo. This is 5% more than in the same period in January last year, and about 13% more than in the same period in December 2025. Such results indicate a gradual recovery of port activity after last year's challenges.

The USPA emphasizes that Ukrainian seaports continue to operate in conditions of increased risks, ensuring stable logistics and playing a key role in international cargo flows. The growth of ship calls and cargo handling is a signal of the stability of port infrastructure even in difficult geopolitical conditions.
