Ukraine is planning to launch a pilot project of fifth-generation mobile communications in the near future. Within a few weeks, a 5G test network will be operational in certain areas of two Ukrainian cities, which will be an important stage in the development of the country's digital infrastructure.
This was announced by the Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov in a video message published on the TikTok social network. According to him, this is not about full-scale coverage, but rather a pilot launch that will allow testing the technology in real conditions.
The minister noted that the launch of 5G will take place very soon. According to him, within a few weeks, fifth-generation communications will appear for residents of certain parts of these cities. This stage, as Fedorov emphasized, should be the first important step, after which the technology is planned to be gradually scaled up.
During the preparation for the launch, special attention was paid to issues of security and compatibility with military systems. Mykhailo Fedorov emphasized that in Ukraine it is necessary to take into account the operation of military aircraft, radars and electronic warfare equipment, since 5G networks use certain frequency ranges.
According to the minister, it is precisely because of these factors that the process of preparing for the pilot launch lasted quite a long time. The Ministry of Digital Affairs team, together with military specialists, conducted numerous checks and tests to ensure the correct operation of the technology without risks to the defense sector.
Fedorov emphasized that the planned project will have the status of a limited pilot. This means that the test results will become the basis for making further decisions on the deployment of 5G in Ukraine, taking into account both technical capabilities and security requirements.
It is expected that the successful implementation of the pilot project will lay the foundation for the further development of 5G networks in the country and the integration of modern digital services that require high data transfer speeds and minimal signal delay.
