Ukrainian enterprises that have suffered losses as a result of hostilities and Russian aggression are actively defending their rights in court. According to Opendatabot, companies from frontline regions have already filed lawsuits against the Russian Federation 311 times and received decisions in their favor. The total amount of compensation awarded is UAH 386 billion, which emphasizes the scale of economic losses suffered by Ukrainian business.
The most resonant case was the ruling of the Commercial Court of Chernihiv Region, which made a record decision in favor of the agro-industrial company Magnat. The court ordered Russia to compensate the company UAH 287.89 billion. This concerns compensation for lost profits under two international business projects, as well as legal assistance costs. This is the largest claim satisfied by a Ukrainian court during the full-scale war, and it significantly changed the overall picture of regional judicial practices.
Thanks to this decision, Chernihiv region came first in terms of the total amount of recoveries — 344.7 billion UAH. This figure is several times higher than the results of other regions that are also actively conducting legal proceedings against Russia. At the same time, regions that have been under occupation or active combat influence for a longer time demonstrate significantly lower compensation rates.
For comparison, in Zaporizhia region the total amount of awarded compensation is 22.9 billion UAH, in Donetsk region — 6.36 billion UAH, and in Odessa region — 4.68 billion UAH. These figures reflect both the scale of destruction and the ability of enterprises to document their losses and prove them in court.
In total, since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukrainian courts have issued 639 decisions on business claims against Russia. In 85% of cases, the companies' claims were fully satisfied. Only three companies were denied compensation by the courts, which indicates the high quality of the preparation of claims and the effectiveness of the legal mechanism for holding the aggressor state accountable.
Thus, the implemented legal instrument allows Ukrainian businesses to systematically record the losses incurred and form a general base of financial claims that the Russian Federation must compensate in the future within the framework of international compensation mechanisms.
