  • How to protect your body from radiation exposure

    Опубликовано: 2025-12-09 08:48:44

In conditions of elevated background radiation, it's important to know how to reduce the body's exposure to harmful substances. Taking iodine-containing supplements is considered one preventative measure. Potassium iodide helps block the absorption of radioactive iodine into the thyroid gland, thereby reducing the risk of thyroid damage. Typically, a course of treatment lasts no more than a week, and the medication should be taken strictly after meals to avoid stomach irritation.

Dosage depends on age: children over two years old and adults should take 0.125 grams of potassium iodide per day, children under two years old should take 0.04 grams, and pregnant women are advised to combine iodine with a small amount of potassium perchlorate. However, all dosages should be discussed with a doctor, as excess iodine can cause adverse reactions and worsen thyroid conditions.

In addition to iodine supplements, a diet should emphasize foods that promote the elimination of radionuclides. Fruits and vegetables with pronounced red or yellow pigments, such as carrots, beets, oranges, and pomegranates, are considered healthy. They contain natural antioxidants that help cells cope with oxidative stress and strengthen the immune system.

To protect the body, taking vitamins E and C is also recommended. These substances strengthen the body's resistance and support cellular function under increased stress. However, it is important to remember that excessive vitamin intake can lead to hypervitaminosis, so do not exceed the recommended doses.

Some people recommend drinking small amounts of dry red wine, especially Cabernet. It does contain antioxidants and can promote the elimination of radionuclides, but this method is only suitable for adults and requires moderation. Doctors emphasize that this is not a cure, but only an additional protective factor.

The main rule of prevention is to avoid self-medication. Before taking any medications or supplements, consult a doctor, especially if you have chronic thyroid or gastrointestinal diseases. The correct approach and adherence to dosages will help the body safely cope with the effects of radiation and maintain health.
