Ukraine and the United States have held another round of intensive talks on a strategy for achieving sustainable peace and comprehensive reconstruction of the country after the end of the war. The talks were attended by US Special Envoy Stephen Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who met with the Ukrainian leadership to discuss security guarantees and further steps in the diplomatic process.
The results of the meeting were reported by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Rustem Umerov. On the Ukrainian side, Umerov himself and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Andriy Gnatov, participated in the negotiations. This is the sixth meeting between representatives of the two countries in the past two weeks, which indicates a significant increase in contacts and coordination.
Ukraine, according to Umerov, is consistently on course for a settlement that will guarantee the protection of sovereignty and independence, protect citizens, and create conditions for the democratic development of the state. Kyiv insists that any agreement must ensure a stable security system and prevent a recurrence of aggression.
A separate topic of the negotiations was the results of a recent meeting between US representatives and the Russian side. Ukrainian and American participants discussed possible steps that could accelerate de-escalation and bring the end of the war closer. The parties also agreed on the framework of future security agreements and identified the necessary deterrent measures to guarantee a lasting peace.
Umerov stressed that progress in the negotiations directly depends on Russia's readiness to demonstrate a real interest in peace, in particular, to take concrete steps to reduce the level of aggression and stop the killings. Such actions, he said, are a prerequisite for any meaningful movement forward.
An important part of the discussion was also the "Future Development Program" - a strategic vision for Ukraine's post-war reconstruction. It involves large-scale investments, joint Ukrainian-American economic initiatives, and the implementation of long-term projects for modernization and reconstruction of infrastructure.
Both countries emphasized that the end of the war, a permanent ceasefire, and the creation of conditions for de-escalation are key factors in preventing new threats and successfully implementing the recovery plan. Its goal is to make Ukraine stronger, more competitive, and more resilient than it was before the full-scale aggression.
Negotiations between the parties are ongoing. As reported by Umerov, the next round of consultations is scheduled for tomorrow.
