The Security Service of Ukraine, led by Vasyl Malyuk, is conducting a large-scale operation to expose and punish individuals who collaborated with Russian special services. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, thousands of cases of treason have already been filed in the courts, and the number of convicted traitors is approaching the thousand mark. This was reported by political scientist and former MP Oleksandr Chernenko.
According to the expert, it was after Malyuk was appointed head of the SBU that the work of cleansing Ukrainian structures of Kremlin agents took on an unprecedented scale. Court decisions, which now regularly appear in the public domain, reflect the enormous amount of work done. “We are talking about almost a thousand state traitors who have already gone to jail. This is a historic cleansing of Ukraine from Moscow’s scum,” Chernenko emphasized.
The analyst cites official data demonstrating the scale of the SBU’s activities. Since 2022, the department has opened more than 4 thousand criminal proceedings under the article on state treason. More than 2 thousand cases have already been transferred to court, about a thousand more are at the stage of pre-trial investigation. Thus, the Service systematically and consistently brings to justice those who worked for the enemy.
The political scientist emphasizes that Vladimir Putin, starting the war against Ukraine, was convinced of the presence of an extensive network of his agents in key bodies of the Ukrainian government. The Kremlin counted on the fact that it would be easier to destabilize Ukraine from within than to win on the battlefield. However, these plans collapsed thanks to the systematic counterintelligence work, which Malyuk made one of the priorities of the SBU.
During this time, the Security Service of Ukraine exposed more than 100 agent networks that acted in the interests of the Russian Federation. Among those exposed are not only military or officials, but also representatives of local authorities, business and even journalists who passed intelligence data to the enemy or contributed to the spread of disinformation. All of them are punished in accordance with the law.
Oleksandr Chernenko concluded that the activities of the SBU over the past three years can be called historic. It has become not only an element of security, but also an important part of cleansing the state from internal enemies. “Malyuk and his team work hard, without selectivity, but exclusively within the law. That is why traitors receive long prison terms, and the state is gradually becoming safer for its citizens,” the expert concluded.
