A new government resolution has been approved in Ukraine, which establishes a single procedure for arranging inclusive workplaces. The document is designed to make the process of adapting the working environment simpler, clearer and more accessible for all employers who employ people with disabilities.
As reported by the Ministry of Community and Territories Development of Ukraine, the adopted decision unifies the requirements for repair, redevelopment and technical equipment of workplaces, ensuring full compliance with the principles of barrier-free work. The new standard contains detailed instructions on how an employer can adapt premises to the specific needs of an employee.
The goal of the innovation is to expand employment opportunities for people with disabilities and create conditions for their full integration into the labor market. According to representatives of the ministry, the single standard will avoid bureaucratic obstacles and provide a systematic approach to creating an inclusive working environment.
The process of arranging an inclusive place now has a clear sequence: submitting an application, assessing the employee's needs, involving specialized specialists, determining the list of necessary works, their implementation and final verification of the results. Thus, adaptation will occur faster, and quality control will be more effective.
The resolution provides for separate solutions for different categories of employees. In particular, for people with musculoskeletal disorders - installation of ramps, handrails, barrier-free routes and adapted bathrooms. For people with visual impairments - application of tactile stripes, use of Braille, contrast markings and special programs. For employees with hearing impairments - introduction of induction loops, visual indicators, text instructions and sign language translation. Solutions are also provided for people with limb amputations, in particular, the arrangement of convenient handrails, lever handles and barrier-free access.
The ministry emphasized that the costs of arranging inclusive workplaces can be financed from the Social Protection Fund for Persons with Disabilities or other designated state and local sources. This allows employers to create comfortable and accessible conditions for all employees without excessive financial burden.
The new standards are another step towards implementing the state strategy “Without Barriers”, aimed at creating a society of equal opportunities, where every person can work, develop and realize their potential regardless of physical limitations.
