  • Brain Cooling as a New Method for Combating Insomnia

    Insomnia is one of the most common problems in modern society. Millions of people worldwide experience difficulty falling asleep or are unable to get a full night's rest. Recently, scientists have proposed an unusual approach: brain cooling.

    Researchers from the University of Pittsburgh have developed a special plastic cap that is worn before sleep. It is designed to cool the prefrontal cortex of the brain, an area associated with the control of thought and emotion. Excessive activity in this area often prevents a person from relaxing and falling asleep.

    According to experts, a high metabolic rate in the brain in people with chronic insomnia leads to increased nerve cell activity. This interferes with the body's transition into sleep. Cooling, on the other hand, slows metabolic processes and creates conditions for faster sleep onset.

    The technology was tested on patients with long-term sleep disorders. The results showed that many participants were able to fall asleep faster and slept deeper than usual. This method was especially useful for those who are not helped by traditional medications or who have contraindications to taking them.

    Importantly, the cooling method does not require complex procedures and can be performed at home. Simply put on a cap before bed and let the device gently regulate brain temperature.

    Scientists believe that in the future, such technologies could become an effective alternative to sleeping pills. This method will improve sleep quality without the risk of addiction or side effects typical of medications. Research is ongoing, but this method is already being touted as one of the most promising in the fight against insomnia.
