Six NATO member states have joined in financing Ukraine’s defense needs, providing for the purchase of more than $2 billion in American weapons. The assistance is being implemented as part of the PURL (Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List) initiative, which allows Kyiv to receive modern weapons at the expense of allies. This was reported by the Office of the President of Ukraine.
According to official information, four assistance packages have already been formed. The first, worth $578 million, was financed by the Netherlands. The second — for $495 million — was provided by Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. The third package, worth $500 million, was financed by Germany, and the fourth — for the same amount — by Canada.
Deliveries of the first two packages have already started in mid-September. At the same time, the United States, together with Canada and Germany, completed the coordination of the contents of the third and fourth packages. These include, in particular, missiles for Patriot systems and ammunition for HIMARS rocket launchers.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that this program has proven its effectiveness: “It is very actively helping us to obtain precisely those types of weapons that are necessary for the front. These are, in particular, missiles for Patriot and HIMARS, which significantly strengthen our defense.”
Negotiations with the United States are currently underway on the fifth and sixth aid packages. In addition, work has already begun on the seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth packages. Among those ready to finance the fifth package are Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Luxembourg, Belgium and Iceland.
Ukraine also expects to expand the program in October, and the strategic goal is to add about one billion dollars each month. This approach will allow us to systematically provide the Armed Forces with the necessary weapons and increase the country’s defense capabilities in the face of ongoing aggression.
