Estonia has announced a €10 million contribution to support NATO’s PURL initiative (Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List), aimed at rapidly strengthening our country’s defense capabilities.
According to Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahknu, Russia is not showing signs of readiness for peace, continuing attacks on the front and massive shelling of Ukrainian cities. Because of this, Ukraine needs rapid and targeted support to protect civilians and maintain the front line.
Tsahknu emphasized that the allocated funds will be used to purchase critically needed weapons and ammunition that will help Ukraine more effectively resist the aggressor.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed the development of the PURL program and its further expansion in a conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. “We discussed the PURL program, which we greatly appreciate. It is already moving well. We discussed how to expand it further, what exactly to fill it with and how to involve other countries. This program helps Ukraine buy exactly the weapons that protect people’s lives,” the head of state noted.
Mark Rutte added that more than €2 billion has already been raised, which is being used to purchase weapons and ammunition, including air defense systems that are not produced in Europe. These resources allow us to respond quickly to the needs of the front and ensure the security of the Ukrainian population.
Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg and other countries have joined the PURL initiative. Negotiations on expanding the circle of participants are ongoing, which indicates broad international support for Ukraine in countering Russian aggression.
