Ukrainian sappers have neutralized over a million explosive devices since the beginning of the war

A large-scale mine action operation is underway in Ukraine, which is of crucial importance for the safety of the civilian population and the restoration of liberated territories. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the demining units of the Security and Defense Forces have already destroyed over one million explosive devices.

According to the Ministry of Defense, only thanks to the systematic work of specialists has it been possible to make large areas that were previously under threat suitable for life and economic activity. This applies to both settlements and important infrastructure - roads, power grids and railways.

Data from the Main Directorate of Mine Action indicate that about 6,500 square kilometers of territory have been surveyed since the beginning of the war. In addition, sappers have checked 9,691 km of highways, 10,164 km of power lines and 3,748 km of railways. All this allows for the restoration of transport links and critical services for the population.

An important stage is also the non-technical survey, which is carried out on deoccupied lands. About 37 thousand square kilometers of territory have already been officially recognized as safe. This means that they can be used for agriculture, industry or the restoration of residential areas.

The pace of demining is gradually increasing. If in 2024 it was possible to clear 38 km² of territories, then in 2025 alone this figure increased almost fourfold - about 150 km² were surveyed. This demonstrates the growth of Ukraine's capabilities in the field of mine action.

A significant amount of work remains ahead, because the scale of the mine danger in Ukraine is one of the largest in the world. At the same time, international partners are actively involved in the process, and Ukrainian sappers are gaining invaluable experience that allows them to make the country safer for its citizens every day.
