The official office of the Norwegian defense company Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of modern weapons, including NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems, has opened in Ukraine. This was announced by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov, emphasizing that the opening of the office is an important step in strengthening Ukrainian air defense.
The minister noted that NASAMS systems are already used to protect Ukrainian cities from Russian missile and drone attacks. According to him, cooperation with Kongsberg will focus on the implementation of joint projects in the field of air defense, as well as on the development of new solutions based on NASAMS technologies to protect the population and critical infrastructure of Ukraine.
“Air defense is our strategic priority. In the current month alone, Russia has carried out more than 3,500 missile and drone launches. We are working to scale up the production of air defense equipment and accelerate their delivery. In partnership with Kongsberg, we will implement projects in the areas of interceptor production, strengthening air defense and maritime space protection,” Umerov emphasized.
The opening of the Kongsberg representative office in Ukraine also opens up new horizons for cooperation between Ukrainian and Norwegian engineers. As the minister noted, we are talking about the modernization of existing weapons and the development of innovative technologies in the field of defense.
It is worth noting that Ukrainian state and private defense enterprises are already implementing a number of projects in partnership with Kongsberg. The company has significant experience in the production of advanced air defense systems and aerospace solutions, which makes it a strategically important ally for Ukraine.
Kongsberg President Eirik Lee emphasized the importance of developing joint production back in February: “We are conducting close negotiations with Ukrainian industry on the creation of a joint venture. Our priority is the serial production of missiles for NASAMS in Ukraine using Ukrainian technologies. We are talking about hundreds of units. We plan to launch such enterprises within a few months.”
Thus, the opening of the Kongsberg office in Ukraine indicates the strengthening of the defense partnership between Ukraine and Norway, as well as serious plans to localize the production of modern weapons and develop joint high-tech projects in the defense sector.
