  • Elon Musk Calls Trump's Tax Cuts and Spending Bill «Disgusting»: Debate Heats Up

    Опубликовано: 2025-06-05 15:00:54

American businessman Elon Musk has come out in strong criticism of a new bill proposed by former President Donald Trump that would significantly change taxes and government spending. In a June 3 post on the X platform, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO called the bill a "disgusting piece of crap" and accused Congress of making a decision that he believes will only deepen the US federal budget deficit.

Musk wrote: "I'm sorry, but I can't take it anymore. This huge, outrageous, shit-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting piece of crap. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did it wrong. You know it." His statement came amid the consideration of one of the most controversial financial projects that Trump is promoting as part of his election campaign.

In response to Musk’s accusations, key Republican leaders have come out in defense of the bill. Senate Majority Leader John Thune, in particular, stressed that he supports the bill’s passage by July 4. “We have an agenda that we pushed through the campaign, and we are going to get it done,” he said, representing South Dakota in Congress.

House Speaker Mike Johnson also rejected Musk’s position, saying, “My friend Elon is terribly wrong.” This is indicative of a growing split within the Republican Party over fiscal priorities, even despite Trump’s support for the bill.

According to media reports, Musk’s public criticism is not only a demonstration of his personal position, but also a test of his real political influence after his role in government as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk, who sought reform and economies of scale, has never been able to achieve the stated goals during his tenure in the administration.

The White House has not escalated the dispute, dismissing Musk’s accusations. The president’s press secretary, Caroline Leavitt, said: “The president already knows where Elon Musk stood on this bill. It doesn’t change his mind. It’s one big, beautiful bill, and he’s sticking to it.”

The divisions within the Republican camp are also not easing. Some lawmakers are demanding even deeper cuts than the $1.6 trillion over a decade, while others, especially those from rural areas, are advocating for programs like Medicaid, which provide health care to low-income citizens. All of this points to a complex political landscape in which even the most influential voices, like Musk, can’t always change the course of events.
