British Foreign Secretary David Cameron has made a new proposal for geopolitical negotiations, offering Germany an alternative way to supply Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine. According to him, Germany can provide Taurus missiles to Britain, and Britain, in turn, will send Ukraine additional Storm Shadow cruise missiles.
This was stated by the British Foreign Secretary himself in an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung, which was made available by the Liga.net news agency.
Cameron defined his proposal as a "ring-fenced exchange" but refrained from disclosing the details of the deal.
"We are determined to work closely with our German colleagues on this issue, as well as on other aspects, to help Ukraine," the British Foreign Secretary emphasized.
At the same time, he dismissed any fears of a possible escalation of the conflict as a result of the transfer of cruise missiles.
"It is possible to set restrictions on the use of these weapons to avoid any escalation," Cameron said, adding that the UK trusts Ukraine.
As a reminder, in January 2024, information was made public about the UK's proposal to Germany to purchase Taurus missiles in order to provide Ukraine with additional Storm Shadow cruise missiles. For the UK, this deal was an opportunity to strengthen its support for Ukraine without risking its own security and would allow it to replenish its stockpile of long-range missiles.
However, on February 22, members of the German parliament rejected the possibility of supplying Ukraine with long-range Taurus missiles.
