Modern science is increasingly proving that our inner mindset plays a major role in our health and longevity. Studies in different countries confirm that optimists are less sick and easier to bear illnesses, and their bodies recover faster from injuries and stresses. It's not just a coincidence or a fluke - it's a pattern that scientists are coming to more and more often.
For example, the University of Pittsburgh conducted an interesting experiment: volunteers were specially infected with a cold virus. It turned out that the immune system of optimists reacted much more actively than that of pessimists. Those who easily relate to problems and remain calm even in unpleasant situations, practically did not fall ill. Scientists concluded that stable positive thinking is directly related to the body's immune defense.
No less surprising data were obtained in the USA. It turned out that positive people feel pain weaker, more easily tolerate surgery, and also suffer less often from serious diseases like cancer and heart attack. Especially important was the view of old age: people who are not afraid of age-related changes actually live longer and feel better in old age.
Interestingly, a good mood prolongs life even for those who already have serious health problems. Scientists emphasize: it's not just genes or physical activity, but the ability not to dwell on bad things, to enjoy small things and keep hope. This is the real power of positive thinking - it helps to cope with illness and live a full life.
Now scientists are increasingly studying how mood affects physiological processes. Some researchers believe that optimists are more inclined to take care of themselves: they watch their diet, sleep enough and avoid bad habits. Others believe it's all about hormones. Joy, hope and calmness trigger the production of “happy hormones” such as serotonin and dopamine, which have a pain-relieving and strengthening effect.
Conversely, chronic stress and negative thoughts stimulate the production of cortisol, a hormone that can impair the body, slow recovery and even accelerate disease. That is why scientists hope that in the future they will be able not only to study this mechanism to the end, but also to create treatment methods based on mood management and emotional stability.
