President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed two important laws that provide for the extension of martial law and general mobilization in the country until May 9, 2025. The relevant documents were published on the website of the Verkhovna Rada, where the numbers of the laws are indicated - No. 12404 and No. 12405.
The laws defining this period were approved by people's deputies back on January 15, 2025. Then 315 and 310 people's deputies voted for their adoption, respectively, which emphasizes the broad support for such measures in parliament.
The extension of martial law and mobilization became necessary due to the continued aggression by Russia, which launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. This is the 14th time that Ukraine has extended these measures since the beginning of the war, underscoring their importance for ensuring the country’s defense capability and national security.
According to the new laws, martial law and mobilization in Ukraine will be maintained until May 9, which is a significant date when Ukraine traditionally celebrates the victory over Nazism. This step also confirms the country’s readiness for a long-term struggle for its independence and sovereignty.
The continuation of mobilization will provide the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other security agencies with the necessary resources and reinforcements in the face of a constant threat from the aggressor. At the same time, the government calls on citizens to be ready to fulfill their duties, which may include participation in mobilization.
The signing of these laws is an important part of Ukraine’s defense strategy, which has long provided reliable resistance to Russian invasion.
