In Ukraine, women are increasingly mastering «male» professions

In Ukraine, there is a noticeable trend towards an increase in the number of women choosing professions that were traditionally considered male. This process is actively supported by both business and the state, since many of these professions are highly paid and in high demand on the labor market. The shortage of personnel in certain industries encourages employers to invest in training qualified specialists.

According to the State Employment Service, last year, about 300 women were employed as machine operators, 128 as crane operators, and almost 200 women received vouchers for training as tractor drivers. This development indicates a change in traditional ideas about gender roles in the professional environment.

The state actively supports women who want to master professions that were previously associated with men. One of these measures is a free training program for women, which covers over 30 professions. The cost of training under the program is covered by the state in the amount of up to UAH 30,000. This allows women to acquire skills in areas where there were fewer of them before, in particular in those industries where there is the greatest demand among employers.

Yulia Zhovtyak, Director of the State Employment Service, noted that currently there are 8 Vocational and Technical Education Centers in Ukraine, which teach 98 licensed professions and over 400 educational programs. These centers provide an opportunity for both young women and those who want to change their profession to master the necessary skills for successful employment.

A feature of modern training programs is the introduction of innovative teaching methods, in particular, the use of virtual reality technologies. This allows future specialists, before starting real work with equipment, to obtain the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills in a safe and controlled environment. Virtual reality is used, for example, when training to operate an excavator or when mastering welding techniques.

These steps help not only to reduce gender inequality in the labor market, but also allow businesses to find qualified personnel, which is increasingly in demand in the modern labor market. Women, who previously had limited access to some professions, can now significantly change their professional future, as well as contribute to the development of the economy as a whole.
