Donating to «banks» has become more popular among Ukrainians: volunteering in numbers

Over the past year, Ukrainians have become significantly more active in supporting volunteer initiatives, in particular through “banks” in Monobank. The official volunteer register has grown 1.5 times and now has 10 thousand people. As Opendatabot notes, this year alone, about 3.5 thousand volunteers have been added to the register, with an average of 310 people added to the list every month.

The largest number of volunteers is registered in Kyiv — 1.6 thousand, which is 15.6% of the total number. Kharkiv Oblast, which is a frontline region, ranks second with 951 volunteers (9.1%), and Kyiv Oblast — third with 896 volunteers (8.6%). The largest increase in volunteers was recorded in Rivne and Zaporizhia Oblasts, where their number increased 1.8 times.

Despite the growth of the official volunteer movement, a significant part of the army’s assistance comes from ordinary citizens. This year, 115 thousand people are creating “banks” at Monobank every month to raise funds. For comparison, last year, about 85 thousand people initiated such collections. This is a convenient way of helping, which is used by both volunteers and the military themselves.

Ukrainians have become more likely to donate to “banks” than to large charitable foundations. Over the past year, the country’s three largest foundations — the Prytula Foundation, “Return Alive” and United24 — raised 19 billion hryvnias. At the same time, this year alone, Ukrainians have directed almost 40 billion hryvnias to “banks,” which is 40% more than over the entire previous year and almost five times more than in 2022.

The number of do-gooders who join the collections every month has also increased 15 times compared to the first months of the war, reaching 2 million people. At the same time, the number of transactions increased from 1 million to 8.8 million per month.

The average donation amount also increased: from 250 UAH in 2022 to 410 UAH in 2024, which is 1.6 times more. Such activity of Ukrainians indicates large-scale support for the army and volunteers, which not only does not decrease, but also continues to grow. At the same time, it is an indicator of trust in local initiatives and personal collections, which have become more understandable and accessible to everyone.
