The Polish private railway company SKPL Cargo plans to launch a new passenger service between Warsaw and the Ukrainian city of Kovel in the Volyn region from December of this year. According to the Polish publication *Rynek Kolejowy*, information about the company's plans has been confirmed by the Polish Railway Transport Authority.
SKPL Cargo applied to open a commercial route on October 1. The declared route covers the section Warsaw-Schydna - Dorogusk (Polish-Ukrainian border), which is part of the future connection between Warsaw and Kovel. The Polish operator plans to operate daily flights and ensure regular traffic between both cities, simplifying the connection between Poland and Ukraine.
The peculiarity of the new route lies in its technical support: the section between the Polish border and Kovel, with a length of 70 kilometers, was modernized by the Ukrainian company "Ukrzaliznytsia" taking into account the European standard of track width of 1435 mm. This will ensure the smooth movement of European-style trains to Ukraine, significantly increasing the comfort and speed of travel.
The process of preparing for the launch of the route officially ended on October 18, when all the necessary legal requirements for the announcement of public information about the upcoming flight were fulfilled. According to preliminary data, SKPL Cargo is ready to serve the route for five years - from December 15, 2024 to December 14, 2029. This underlines the company's intentions to provide long-term transport connections.
According to the plans, the train will leave Warsaw at 15:05 and arrive at the Dorogusk border station via the cities of Lublin and Chelm at 18:30, after which it will continue to Kovel. However, information about the arrival time of the train on the Ukrainian part of the route has not yet been made public.
In the return direction, the train should depart from Dorohusk at 2:45 in the morning and arrive in Warsaw at 6:15 in the morning. Planned stops include Polish cities such as Piława, Dęblin, Puławy, Lublin-Gołówny, Świdnik-Misto and Chelm, which will provide convenient access to train services for passengers from various regions of Poland.
