Railway transportation between Ukraine and the EU may soon increase significantly

Railway transportation between Ukraine and the European Union may soon increase significantly. One of the main priorities for "Ukrzaliznytsia" (UZ) is the establishment of transportation through Hungary, as confirmed by the company's press service.

To implement this initiative, UZ's subsidiary, UZ Cargo Poland, concluded an agreement with Rail Cargo Hungaria Zrt. regarding cooperation, which will contribute to the increase of volumes of both intermodal and conventional rail freight transportation between Ukraine and Hungary. This important memorandum was signed during the InnoTrans 2024 exhibition in Berlin.

The main goals of cooperation include the development of transportation between the EU and Ukraine through the Batyovo - Eperieske and Zahony - Chop railway crossings. This will contribute to the improvement of logistics connections and reduction of cargo delivery time between countries. In addition, the development of technologies for cross-border transportation is planned, which will ensure more efficient use of available resources.

Another important aspect of the agreement is the optimization of the use of European and broad-gauge wagons in international transportation. This will increase the volume of transportation, reduce costs and improve the quality of customer service through new methods of transportation.

Joint work on tariffs is also foreseen, which includes the determination of the cost of transportation, the organization of cargo flows, as well as the provision of a full range of transport and forwarding services. This will reduce business costs and ensure the competitiveness of Ukrainian goods on the European market.

We will remind that UZ Cargo Poland was founded in 2023 to organize freight transportation in Poland and other countries of the European Union. Since September of last year, the company began to provide a full range of services, including intermodal and container transportation. The development of this direction is key to strengthening economic ties between Ukraine and the EU.
