The issue of providing assistance to Ukraine is gaining momentum in the political debate in the United States. According to The Hill, Democrats in both houses of Congress are considering supporting Ukraine with a loan. The move comes as pro-Ukrainian leaders in the Republican Party try to find a way to help Ukraine fight Russian aggression.

Although some Democrats favor the immediate foreign aid that the US Senate approved last month, including $60 billion in aid to Ukraine, and criticize House Speaker Mike Johnson for refusing to bring the issue to the floor, many Democrats are willing to support the idea of a loan as proposed by Johnson, according to The Hill.

"Democrats support helping Ukraine. Regardless of what you call it - a loan or whatever - Ukraine needs help. So, if it becomes a loan, it's still aid; if it's an aid package with no strings attached, it's still aid," said Congressman Bennie Thompson.

The loan strategy presented by Johnson has the potential to break the deadlock in the debate on aid to Ukraine. It demonstrates the willingness of Democrats to cooperate with Republicans on foreign policy issues, including supporting allies like Ukraine in their fight for their security and sovereignty.
