As of the beginning of December this year, Germany has taken effective measures in the area of sanctions, blocking Russian assets worth EUR 4.1 billion. This decisive action was a response to Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine.

Nojinan Niminde-Dundadengar, a spokesperson for the German Ministry of Finance, announced the freezing of Russian assets, which include "frozen money and economic resources of individuals, as well as blocked funds of the Russian central bank."

In early December, the German government seized more than 4 billion euros of Russian assets, taking sanctions measures in accordance with international law.

Christian Wagner, spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry, expressed a positive attitude to the new sanctions measures and reminded of the diversity of sanctions and their effect. He emphasized the importance of not underestimating them, as many of them have indirect effects and are used to ensure resilience.

Recently, the 12th sanctions package was adopted, and according to Wagner, "there will be further packages, that the system will be expanded and developed, the shortcomings and opportunities to circumvent sanctions will be identified and blocked".

The German Ministry of Finance also recalled the G7 decision, in which the participants agreed to "make efforts to ensure that Russia pays for the reconstruction of Ukraine in the long term" by freezing Russian state assets in accordance with the legal systems of the member states.
