Political attitudes in Slovakia are undergoing significant changes after the appointment of a new prime minister, Robert Fico, who made an important statement regarding military aid to Ukraine. Currently, the Slovak leader is withdrawing his support for military aid to Ukraine, preferring peaceful diplomatic agreements to war.

Prime Minister Fico expressed his point of view, stating: "It is better to let them negotiate peace for 10 years than to kill each other for 10 years without any conclusions." His opinion emphasizes the importance of a peaceful resolution of the conflict and puts the issue of military assistance on hold.

According to Robert Fico, Russia already has significant control over the territories that were disputed, and this forces it to consider alternative ways to resolve the conflict that do not include military intervention.

The statement comes after the September 30 parliamentary elections, which were won by the pro-Russian Smer-SD party. Robert Fico, who heads this party, returns to the post of Prime Minister of Slovakia after two previous terms in office.

Recently, it became known that the Slovak Ministry of Defense was considering providing Ukraine with additional military assistance, but this initiative is being blocked by President Zuzana Chaputova, who is responsible for decision-making in the Cabinet of Ministers.

Zuzana Chaputova believes that it is important to respect the results of democratic elections and make decisions that are in line with the will of the citizens. The Smer-SD party, which has formed a coalition with other parties, promises not to provide military support to Ukraine, which is a new turn of events in the Slovak political picture.

Now, under the new government and leadership of Robert Fico, Slovakia is facing important decisions regarding its policy toward Ukraine and Russia, as well as its contribution to a peaceful resolution of the conflict in eastern Ukraine. The resolution of these issues will be of great importance for further developments in the region.
