In search of the perfect figure, many of us are ready to do anything. We test ourselves with diets, try "miracle" drugs, and even start to worry about calories. However, scientists from Germany have debunked a few myths about low-calorie foods that are worth knowing.
Myth #1: All fruits and vegetables are low in calories. Indeed, many of them are low in calories and rich in fiber, which is good for the body. Cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, and herbs - you can consume them without restrictions. However, you should be careful with bananas, dried fruits, and avocados, as they are high-calorie foods.
Myth #2: Low-calorie foods can be eaten without restrictions. Eating a lot of low-calorie foods like yogurts and low-fat cottage cheese can upset the balance in your body. A lack of healthy fats can lead to excessive appetite and you will start eating more than you should, replacing the quality of foods with quantity.
Myth #3: Low-calorie cakes and pastries. Often manufacturers replace natural fats with cheap and unhealthy alternatives. A cake with palm oil instead of butter and eggs with egg powder will never be tasty and healthy.
Myth #4: Lean, diet meat is low in calories. This statement is only partially true. Veal, turkey, chicken and rabbit meat can be included in a proper diet, but it does not guarantee low calories. How you cook the meat and what you serve it with is also important: preferably bake the meat in its own juices and serve it with non-iron side dishes such as uncooked rice, buckwheat and boiled vegetables.
Myth #5: Carbonated "light" drinks labeled calorie-free. This is again a deception of manufacturers. Carbonated water contains harmful substances and preservatives, and drinking it in large quantities can negatively affect your figure.
Knowing these myths will help you make more informed food choices and keep your figure healthier.
