Sunburns are not only an unpleasant sensation on the skin, but also a serious health risk, especially for teenagers. American researchers who have completed a large-scale scientific study have found that sunburns can become provocateurs of cancer development in young people.
First of all, according to the research, young people should pay increased attention to the dangers of sunburns. In the course of long-term observations, it was found that the risk of developing melanoma, one of the most aggressive forms of skin cancer, increases significantly if there is a history of sunburn. This is especially true if the burns were received between the ages of 15 and 20.
An interesting fact is that light-skinned girls with red hair are at increased risk. These studies, conducted over twenty years with the participation of hundreds of girls of different ages, indicate a special susceptibility of such a category of skin to the effects of sunlight.
Scientists have also found that a large number of moles on the skin increases the danger of exposure to sunlight. The reason for this is still a mystery, but experts strongly recommend the use of sunscreen to protect against ultraviolet radiation. Spending time in direct sunlight should be limited and sunbathing should not exceed ten minutes.
Maintaining healthy skin and reducing the risk of cancer requires vigilance and proper precautions.
