One of the potential US presidential candidates from the Republican Party, Ron DeSantis, said that the previous US President Donald Trump "certainly" lost the 2020 election. The interview with the politician was conducted by NBC News.

According to Desantis, Trump definitely lost the 2020 presidential election, while current US President Joe Biden won.

"Of course he lost. Joe Biden is the president," Desantis said.

The politician pointed out that Trump "did not control his own government" in 2020 because he supported the COVID-19 policy, which led to the use of mail-in votes - Democrats used mail-in votes more often than Republicans, which increased their voter turnout.

"Donald Trump helped create all these circumstances," the politician emphasized.

As of August 2023, 15 months before the next election, Trump is the undisputed favorite among Republicans. He claims to be able to "end the war in 24 hours," and his far-right MAGA party community is strongly opposed to further support for official Kyiv.
